On March 4th, the 7th "Transmission and Innovation of Embroidery Skills" thematic salon, as one of the activities of the 2026 Haining China International Home Textiles (Spring) Expo, was held. Embroidery is an artistic treasure that has been passed down for thousands of years in Chinese civilization, carrying the cultural genes and craftsmanship wisdom of the nation. This event brought together domestic非遺 inheritors, industry experts, enterprise representatives, and technical research institutions, jointly focusing on the inheritance of Chinese textile非遺, and discussing how the embroidery skills can maintain tradition while also generating new fashionable vitality. At the meeting, the cooperation signing for the establishment of the Textile Heritage Inheritance and Innovation Research Institute jointly built by Zhejiang University of Technology and Haining China Textile City was held, as well as the signing ceremony for the textile cultural exhibition and sales cooperation project.
The theme salon was organized by Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, Haining China Textile City Co., Ltd., and the Weaving Embroidery Intangible Cultural Heritage Training Team of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University. It was co-organized by the Professional Committee for Intangible Cultural Heritage and Development of the Zhejiang Textile Engineering Society, the Textile Intangible Cultural Heritage Creative Hall of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University - Haining China Textile City, and the Textile Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Institute of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University - Haining China Textile City. Jin Xiaoke, the secretary-general of the Professional Committee for Intangible Cultural Heritage and Development of the Zhejiang Textile Engineering Society and a key teacher of the Weaving Embroidery Training Class of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, presided over the event.
Let intangible cultural heritage live in the present, and let tradition lead the future.
Ma Zefeng, the Vice Mayor of Haining Municipal Government, stated that brocade, as a traditional Chinese jacquard silk weaving craft, has its techniques dating back to the Yin Dynasty, with a profound and long-lasting cultural heritage. Haining is the global center for jacquard processing, production and sales, as well as an important base for traditional Chinese fashion e-commerce. It has always regarded the inheritance and innovation of brocade techniques as the core driving force for the high-quality development of the home textile industry. It has always sought breakthroughs while adhering to tradition and achieved upgrades while preserving the cultural heritage. Currently, the home textile industry in Haining has formed a complete industrial chain ecosystem covering fabric production, design and research, process manufacturing, post-treatment of printing and dyeing, finished product manufacturing, brand sales, and intelligent logistics. In the future, Haining will actively introduce technologies such as artificial intelligence to perfectly combine traditional brocade elements with modern production and fashionable design, making the cultural heritage model a vivid example of traditional craftsmanship integrating into modern life, and enhancing the regional brand influence and core competitiveness of Haining's home textiles. He warmly invited textile heritage experts and industry elites to visit Haining and work together to deeply integrate the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage skills and industrial innovation, jointly writing a brand new chapter of traditional and symbiotic coexistence and prosperity with modern industries, allowing the thousand-year-old brocade to shine even more brilliantly in Haining.
Zhang Haiyan, the deputy director and secretary-general of the Cluster Work Committee of China Textile Industry Federation and the vice president of the China Textile Industry Management Association, pointed out that making the classic textile intangible cultural heritage leave the museum, integrating the classic brocade patterns into modern textile fashion, and introducing brocade cultural creativity into modern life have become the consensus among the industry regarding the path for the inheritance and innovation of textile intangible cultural heritage. In recent years, traditional brocade has gradually entered modern home decoration scenarios. Through innovative jacquard techniques and the activation of intangible cultural heritage elements, it not only meets the people's aspiration for a quality life, but also continuously expands the development space of the home textile industry. Regarding the inheritance and development of intangible cultural heritage skills, there are many excellent experiences worth spreading and promoting. For example: Haining Home Textile City, based on its industrial foundation, strives to build platforms such as a fashion fabric innovation center and a textile intangible cultural heritage museum, actively develop cultural creativity derivatives, and innovate consumption scenarios. This not only injects market vitality into the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage but also opens up a new fashion track for national-style fabrics. Zhejiang University of Technology, relying on the unique advantages of its textile professional school, continuously empowers the development of textile inheritance and development, and the construction of talent teams. Facing the dual opportunities of the new era's consumption upgrade and technological revolution, Zhang Haiyan stated that the industry association will continue to leverage its own advantages and roles, actively coordinate the efforts of the government, universities, and enterprises, and continuously exert efforts in policy guidance, standard formulation, and resource integration, to continuously empower the inheritance and innovation of textile intangible cultural heritage and the development of the textile fashion industry.
